Yard/Flower Bed Clean-up DaySaturday, April 16, 9aBring lawn and gardening tools. Mulch near building will be removed and replaced. Perennials need split and replanted, collect yard debris before mowing. Event for all ages.
Picnic ShelterAbout the ShelterWe wanted to build this Picnic Shelter on our north lawn to reach, teach and serve our community, and do it debt free. We've been collecting money since 2008, and in July 2010 a church-wide challenge finish off the needed funds was surpassed by $3,000. This shelter construction is part of our Mission 2020 goals. Tom and Robbie Ping have been planning and coordinating the efforts for the Picnic Shelter. The beautiful exposed aggregate foundation was poured on Tuesday morning, August 17, 2010 with an abundance of good help. Max VanMeter volunteered his time and talent to oversee this portion of the job. Poles for the supports were cut on Dan Conder's portable saw mill. They were stained by volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 24 & 25, 2010 and the poles were set in place on August 27, 2010 in preparation for an all-church work day on August 28, 2010. During that day, the roof was installed, and over the next week the shingles were installed on the roof. The next step was staining woodwork for the gables, which were installed the week September 7-9, 2010. The picnic tables were set in place (thank you Hamilton County Parks Department), and the occupancy permit was signed off late on Friday, September 10, 2010. Since the permit was issued, conduit and wires for electricity and lighting have been installed. We will complete the ceiling and electric work as the funds become available. Our first church event was held on September 29, 2010, when the men's ministry served a meal to 115 people during The Summit. The winning name of the shelter contest was announced - The Shelter - based on Isaiah 4:6.

You can use all your talents for the Lord - including your love of gardening! We need people to pull weeds and trim bushes and trees throughout the summer. We have flower beds on practically all sides of the church and in the medians, as well as around the memorial garden and house of prayer. If you would like to help on a volunteer basis, contact Shirley.
Have you experienced what the hard water in our area does to our systems? Just take a look at the dishwasher and that gives you a pretty good idea! This year we've budgeted to install a water softener system that will help eliminate future costly repairs to numerous water heaters, the baptistry, the dishwasher, the icemaker, urinals and so forth. Why do you need to know this? Because we need your donation of softener salt!
Our system will be installed in late February 2007 and requires "blue bag" Morton (or other brand... is there another brand?) White Crystal Water Softener Salt. If you want to donate a bag, or two, or ten, they will be stored in the utility closet next to the small bathrooms by the office.
If you purchase and drop bags by the church, place them next to the double glass door entrance on the south side of the building (closest to the office). Come to the office if you need custodial assistance. If you keep the receipt, you can turn it in to the office for contribution credit for tax purposes.
If you would like to donate funds, simply designate "salt" on your check memo area.
We will have to pay to have the parking lot cleared for emergency use (plan A) and for church services on mornings (plan C), but we are looking for our church members and attenders with snow plows who are willing (for gas money) to come and help clear the parking lot after the "emergency" plowing has been done (plan D, when plan A has been completed. Can you help? If so, contact Beth Roberts, Tom Ping or Mike House.
Click on the graphic to the right to see the map of the parking lot with the four plans laid out. You'll need Acrobat Reader if you don't have it, click the logo to download.
The church has a snow blower for sidewalks. We are also interested in those who would like to help clear the walks if they don't have a snow plow.
