A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

The beginning of the 1602 mile journey. The caravan of four vehicles pulls out of the MKcGill's driveway about 3:00pm

Saturday, March 31, 2007

After a 27 hour drive stowed under the bed in the RV, Kip arrived in Show Low Arizona, exhausted, but thankful for a safe trip! Our goal is to work on the worship center at Dunamis Ranch (heating and air, porch, windows, plumbing), as well as work and visit on the reservation at the White Mountain Apache Christian Church, the jail, the pregnancy center, and Rainbow treatment center.

A caravan crossed the nation including Kip, David & Gina McGill and Christian, Carter and Kennedy; Ron & Bev McGill; Jason & Lance Razo; Max Thompson; Jeff Pieper; Buck Green; Deb & Gino Small and Ellary with friend Sierra; Robbie Ping; Mike, Eli and Jacob Hutson; Chad Hartwick; Jeff & Beth and Grace Roberts made up the caravan with, thanks to God (and Pull-up), no incidents.

On arrival day (Saturday, March 31) Scott & Phillip Sullivan and Scott's father Phil Sullivan flew in from Ann Arbor, Michigan joined the road travelers, as did Jason Razo's father, John, who lives in Arizona and is joining the mission team for the week. Thirty people stayed in the house, garage and RV at Beth and Greg Smith's home near Dutch Mountain North of Show Low, Arizona - not even the mail man comes up here!

Along with the overnight guests, we had lots of visitors join us on Sunday night for a cookout and fellowship. Pete & Kim Kemp and Kurt & Kelle Foland, missionaries on the reservation, Jim and Anita Talbott (former CCC members - Anita teaches first grade on the reservation), Cindy Gritton (Beth & Kim's sister), Bob & Carolyn Eikenberry (Beth, Kim and Cindy's parents - on an extended stay as Bob oversees the building of the worship center) and Damien, Beth and Greg's godchild.

Relaxing around the fire pit on the back deck

Kip blocking Jacob Hutson's jump ball

Fishing license: $32. Picnic lunch: $8. Lost lures: $30. One rainbow trout for the ten fishermen: priceless.

Greg and Beth's house, built over about 6 months in 2006, is about 1/4 a mile south east of the worship center. The back, facing the west and Dutch Mountain, has a nice deck with a big fire pit.

The front of the house and the garage, also known as the "bedroom" for most of the men.

The view of Dutch Mountain from the back deck of the house. Dutch Mountain is at an elevation of 6400 feet - you know when the recipe provides directions for high altitude cooking (that you don't need in Indiana), you use those directions here. It is also dry and breezy.

Grace and Kennedy went exploring as soon as we arrived at Dunamis Ranch. Within the hour, they wanted everyone to see their "bone collection."

Here is an opportunity for a mother to make a choice to freak out or to let it go on day one of the journey. If you look at the larger picture, you'll see one of the bones has a hoof and fur attached to it! (elk?). We also get opportunities to freak out later when we find the snake and when the scorpion is killed at the church during Wednesday services.
