This will be the seventh year that the Lord (and the Indiana Pork Producers) provides us a fun way to raise some money for the church. We provide 12 volunteers per shift for twelve days of the fair! We are provided tickets to park and enter the fair and free food and unlimited beverages from the pork producers, as well as a hat and an apron.

Sign up in the south hallway off the main foyer.

Changes from previous years include:

  • The fair has been extended by five days, from August 7 - 23. The church will not serve on August 18, 18, 20, 21, or 23.
  • No more "freedom wraps" and all the fixin's that go with them
  • Introduction of roasted small potatoes to the menu
  • No T-Shirts - this year we'll receive an apron. You may wear a Pork Tent T-shirt from previous years if it is in decent shape, or pick out an appropriate shirt of your choice.
  • New baseball hats - this year they will say "Indiana Pork Producers"
  • Cashiers will take credit cards this year as a requirement of the state fair board.

The Pork Tent is our August "Kindness in Progress" Servant Evangelism Challenge. It is a great way to get to know others from the church, invite your friends and family members to join you, and serve. We earn $10,000 for our efforts ($5,000 a serving line), from which $9,000 goes to debt reduction and $1,000 to missions.

You do not have to be a member or attender of Cicero Christian Church to join the fun.

Sign up sheets have been posted in the foyer as of June 19, 2009.
You may sign up in the foyer or call the office (984.4653) to sign up for a shift...or two...or three.

Youth 14 and above are welcome. You can sign up for a full day (10a-9p), or half day (10a-3p or 3-9p) shift and you can sign up for multiple shifts. You will have some break time to explore a bit of the fair, and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault.

State Fair Pork Tent Volunteer Guidelines

  • Gloves must be worn when serving and handling food. Change your gloves and wash your hand often.
  • No open-toed shoes. Tennis shoes are best, as you will be on your feet most of the day.
  • No extremely tight or ragged/torn clothing, spandex or short shorts. It will be hot, dress appropriately.
  • Please have a neat appearance. Avoid perfume or cologne (help keep away the bees, and avoid setting off allergies!) If you volunteer more than one day, make sure to wash your Pork Producers T-shirt and apron and wear it for the subsequent days– you only receive one apron and hat.
  • No eating behind the serving lines (eat all you want elsewhere).
  • No smoking in the pork tent.
  • No cell phone use (including text messaging) in the tent. Exit the tent to use cell phone.
  • If you eat a pork product, let the cashier know for inventory purposes.
  • Please advise the tent manager of any health-related issues.
  • Keep counter and sinks clean.
  • Keep tables cleaned, trash in receptacles and chairs orderly in dining area.
  • Help to keep counters stocked and notify tent supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Make sure cookers are on (a cord can come loose, be damaged, or a circuit trip could shut them off)
  • If there are any complaints, please get the tent manager, who is there to assist you!
