Mission Jamaica
Since 1989, Ruth Van Horn (member of Cicero Christian Church) has served as missionary to Jamaica: loving the children, feeding the hungry, ministering to the infirmed, teaching adult education using the New Testament as her textbook, hosting short-term mission teams, leading women's fellowships, and sharing the love of Jesus with everyone. When not in Jamaica, "Miss Daisey" works in camps and Vacation Bible Schools and writes to mission supporters. She speakes in churches, classes and colleges about missions.
In 1997, Larry and Ginny Wiseman joined Ruth for a week of revival at Gayle, a mountain church an IDES team helped rebuild on Ruth's first trip. They came back with hearts for Jamaica and a vission for Mission Jamaica: a church and training center to reach out to mountain areas for Christ.
Land was purchased, and in 2001, approximately 40 members of Cicero Christian Church build Four Roads Christian Church on 7-1/2 acres. In 2003, again working with local Jamaicans, a school was built and Four Roads Basic School began.
Current projects and plans include a second story on the school for dormitory use, improvements to the school and grounds, sports ministry, medical clinic, adult education, vocational training, and a Christian Retreat Center on the mountaintop.
We thank the supporters and volunteers who have given their time, talent and treasure for Lord's work in Jamaica.
