A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

~ John 13:34-35 ~

Where has Kip been?

Kindness in Progress is your servant evangelism project - showing God's love in a practical way.

The following are some ways that our church family has been using KIP (our Kindness In Progress mascot) to simply show the love of Christ. Show us what you've done, and keep Kip busy!

Share Your
Kindness !

Business Blast

September 2007

Apparently you are all shy or want to keep anonymous, but I know many of you really took care of the business you adopted. Baked goods, coupons, flowers, extra business, candy, free coffee...I've heard at least a couple of dozen different things you've done to support and shower our local businesses when you walk by me in the foyer talking about it! Good work!

Kip baked 10 dozen cookies and delivered them to 10 local businesses. Would you take cookies from this fella? They did! What simple acts of kindness have you been doing for our business community?

How fitting for Mephibosheth to take Agape' Therapeutic Riding Center for the Business Blast! Our day program baked a delicious "dump" cake to share God's Love with a deserving business that has given so much to the individuals we serve. Every participant took part in the baking...anywhere from directing us by reading the recipe (making sure we didn't leave anything out!), "dumping" the ingredients into the cake pan, stirring, cutting the butter...etc. We made cards by stamping a "horse" on the outside with our faithful "You've been served" labels. As soon as the cake was done, we all piled into the car and made our surprise delivery...of course when we pulled up, they thought they forgot to put us on the schedule!  What a surprise it was for them to get dessert during their lunch meeting.  We discovered just how hard it is to receive when you are used to giving...they wanted us to join them. We decided to take a walk and check out their new waterfall featureon grounds instead.  Of course Chuck thinks we are all crazy and in his words have gone back to "Little House on the Prairie" when everyone shared with each other, but isn't that what God has called us to do?

For business blast Chloe Wilson and her parents went to Tax Advantage and took them the following one day each week:
* homemade cake
* a box of popcorn; the box had 8 packages in it (just enough for the people who work there) and we attached bible verses to the part where you open the package of popcorn, so they would be able to read a verse before opening the package.  We also put literature from the church in the popcorn box, and attached a handwritten thank you note to them on the front of the box, as well as a bible verse.  There is a pic attached of this.
* lunch; pop, salad, lasagna, garlic bread, and chocolate chip cookies.

Serving at the Pork Tent

We completed our 12 days of volunteer serving at the Indiana Pork Producers tent at the Indiana State Fair held August 8-19, 2007, and will receive $10,000 for our efforts. About 175 people participated in this Kindness in Progress Servant Evangelism focus for the month of August.

June 23, 2007

The first "ServeFest" took place on Saturday, June 23, on an overcast day. Over 50 people came to serve at the four primary service stations: the stop light at 19 and Jackson streets to give out free water, corner of Brinton and Main streets passing out free first aid kits, at the ball park, bridge and pool passing out visors and sunglasses, and to several community homes delivering groceries.

Preparing materials for the ServeFest was done by volunteers on Tuesday, June 19 & Thursday, June 21. Clockwise, from top left - applying "You've Been Served" labels to visors (l to r: Sharon Piper, Pam Conder, Judy Jenkins, Karen McDole, Sharon Knapp, Tim Lueking); placing the medical supplies into the cases for the first aid kits (Jane Adkins & Vicki McGaw); Esther Worthman applies labels to the first aid kits; Pam, Judy, Sharon P, Karen, Susan Hoch and Suzanne Shoemaker place labels on bottled water.

The actual event was a cool overcast morning with a bit of much-needed light rain. We only have a few shots in action - these reflect giving away bottled water and first aid kits.

Gifts for Merry Manor

 Prayer Shaws

Timothy Lueking and Braden Kinder did handprints for the residents at Merry Manor and of course Piper Kinder had to help out as well.

Betty Widows is so proud of per prayer shawl presented to her by the Tuesday afternoon Women’s Bible Study group. This KIP project is going to be a great success!  Betty said that she had a friend from Florida at her house when Sharon brought the prayer shawl over to her. Her friend was so impressed she couldn’t wait to get back to Florida so she could make some of these for people she knew. Betty also said it was the perfect give for someone with an illness.  She curls up in this every morning when she gets up. Nancy Plummer has three more prayer shawls cut out and ready to sew and we already know who we will be giving these too. Everyone in our group said a prayer for Betty over the shawl before we gave it to her.  We are not only touching the life of the person we give this gift to but Betty says she shows it to everyone who comes to her house and shares with them about what this gift means to her.  It is also just a good time to visit with someone who is ill when presenting this gift.  So many days we just don’t take the time to visit with people and let them know we care.  Betty, we love you and hope you will be able to use this shawl to keep you warm on many days to come.

We let KIP have too much down time...

...he had time to go to the Super Bowl!

Isn't this a fantastic photo of the Colts team praying after the Super Bowl win? Pastor Tim wondered if it was possible to have KIP represented...but of course it is!!!

Kip delivered DVDs to the Hamilton North Public Library (get info on the DVD Drive)

October 31

The first "Trunk or Treat " took place on Tuesday, October 31, on a cool fall evening. Nearly 30 vehicles were here with at least 100 of our church family having a great time giving out candy. Many wore costumes and decorated their vehicles. There is already talk of next year: bringing portable fireplaces, having contest for best decorations and costume, and so forth. We figure at least 400 neighborhood kids got candy.

The first "Great Pumpkin Giveaway" took place on Saturday, October 21, on a blustery fall day. Members of the Hancock Home Fellowship served at this event. We had 500 pumpkins to giveaway and had many left over - perhaps our community is not too sure what to think about these free acts of service, but the more we do, the more they will respond (remember that quote from move Field of Dreams: "if we build it, they will come" - this is our time to build awareness!) They had a wonderful time making new friends as we
served cookies and hot cider and gave away pumpkins of all sizes to parents and children in our community.

People made good use of the leftover pumpkins. Pastor Steven greeted Evelyn Ziegler at Harbour Manor Nursing Home, and left pumpkins for the nursing staff.

Pastor Doug Wiggers and his wife Lisa present pumpkins to the staff at the hotel in Fishers that Lisa manages.

Kip in FL!

 Home Fellowship Project

Kip traveled to Lakeland, Florida helping raise funds to send Jean Medonic's niece, Jennifer, and her daughters, Makenzie and Breanna, to New York for treatment of Chairi Malformation (the base fo the brain bulges into the spinal canal). All three suffer from the symptoms of this disorder and they eagerly look forward to the trip to New York in November to meet with a specialist. Breanna is holding Kip and her favorite tiger.

The McGill Home Fellowship decided they would compile a list of names of elderly members or attenders or just individuals in the neighborhood who are either shut in or have limited mobility or people contact, and that we would prepare baskets (actually, bags) for them of things that would include things to eat and enjoy, just small things, and then we would deliver the baskets, which we did. Those I spoke with had a wonderful report of the response of the recipients, most of which were older people who used to be regular attenders, or are simply neighbors in our community.

Hamilton County Humane Society - Lunch is Served!

Dudley and Sarah Senefeld, Shirley and Bill Carter, Jeff and Chris Meyer, Marie Mosbaugh all shared in taking lunch to the Hamilton County Humane Society on 10/18/06.  We had to fight not to bring home some of the most cute kitties.  It was fun but hard to see all the animals in the shelter. (Take a look at the kittens in the enlargement of the middle picture!)

Cookies & Prayer Shaws

 Doorknob Hangers

Tuesday afternoon Women’s Bible Study: (l to r): Pam Conder, Nancy Plummer, Sharon Knapp, Judy Jenkins, Karen McDole. Not pictured: Sharon Piper, Becky Moore.

We made three trays of homemade goodies such as cookies, brownies, and breads and presented them to three different places.  Nancy Plummer was our person who delivered the items with her husband Jim Plummer.  The first big tray went to Indiana Cancer Center and was left for staff, patients, and their families.  One of the doctors later asked Nancy about the tray and said he really liked the labels on them about being served by Cicero Christian Church.  Another tray was delivered to Riverview Hospital Cardiac waiting room and the lady at the reception desk was delighted with the treats.  The final tray was given to the staff that work in the Cardiac Care Unit while Paul Settles was a patient there. All trays were received with excitement.

Becky Moore came up with the idea of prayer shaws.  We made our first prayer shaw and it was given to Betty Widows who is suffering from cancer. We all prayed over the shaw that Nancy Plummer made and Sharon presented it to Betty Widows. Betty was thrilled and said she gets so chilled during the cold weather and will use it to help keep her warm.

Our group is excited about helping others and we find we have a special place in our hearts for cancer patients and heart patients.  It seems like our prayer chain is always filled with church members asking for prayers for family, friends, and co-workers who suffer from these diseases.

Sunday afternoon, October 8 (a beautiful day that the Lord made!) young and old from the 10:20 upper room Community Gathering had a wonderful time hanging out for Jesus.  In 45 minutes they hung 230 door hangers informing our community of the 4 free events we are offering them in
October and November. (l to r): Marie Mosbaugh, Janet Bangs, Joyce Hancock, Gabriella Hancock, Shirley Carter, Stephanie Grant holding Samantha, Hayley MacDonald, Bryce MacDonald.

CCC has handed out over 1700 of these publicity flyers!

Men's Breakfast

 New Baby

 Driveway Seal

Kip can get up really early in the morning! He joined (from left to right) Jim Johnson, John Knapp and Bill Carter and cooked for the men that meet weekly at 6am on Friday mornings.

The KIP picture is of Jen Huss and her sister-in-law Lori Huss holding Lori's son Nicholas. Jen Made a complete dinner for the family and brought it over, of course, it was delicious. Jen and Paul took care of the baby while the rest of us ate.

Norm Stabler and Steven Hancock are in their American Gothic pose. Joyce
Hancock caught them while they were sealing the entrance way and driveway for
their neighbor.

Harbour Manor Nursing Home

 Moving Team

Debbie Voorhis (with Kip, left) and Joyce Hancock (far left with Harbor Manor staff) baked and delivered goodies to Harbour Manor Nursing Home. Looks like Kip has some new friends!

Amy McConnell and Kim Taylor will deliver some to Summer Trace.

Kindness was exhibited by Paul Martz, Tom Ping and Paul Huss as they assisted one of our congregation move.

Post Office

 Pantry

 Crayons

Pastor Steve took donuts to the Post Office in Cicero.

The small group headed up by Ben & Devon Radant bought fruit, labeled it with scripture, and placed it in the food pantry.

The Monday evening youth prayer and fellowship group led by Barb & Buck Green purchased crayons and coloring books and donated them to the daycare children.

September 13

 Hamilton County

Judy Woodrow-Huss took a dozen donuts to the Street and Water department garage. The gentleman that she handed the donuts was prompted to ask what they had done to get the treats, and she responded the we appreciate the job he does and that it was from CCC. She thought she could have taken the donuts to the main office, howver, she thought that the working men should get them first as they are there each day and may be the ones to do the dirty jobs. She left the "you've been served" and "grace" cards.

Estelee and Ken Clark used their fruit crop for a pie ministry. They grow, pick, peel and prepare the fruit and bake the pies and clean up the mess together. They package the whole pier or cut it in pieces and visit neighbors, friends, older people who have given so much of themselves in teaching or mentoring to us in years past, shut-ins, and others just home from the hospital or just to visit and say "Hi".

Since Kindness in Progress began, they have visited with baked pies, cookies, soup for a friend just home from the hospital, given fresh vegetables from their garden, and prepared apples for the freezer for a neighbor whose baby was in the hospital. During the two week period, we touched 29 lives of people with pies representing the Love of God. They feel they get a blessing every time.

Sewing is another way Estelee likes to show kindness for others. As part of a quilt group, she sews gowns for premie babies and makes small quilts for the police officers to give to the children in a domestic violence situation.

Love is service in work clothes.

Arcadia & Cicero - September 9

Several members of a Community Gathering pooled their resources and filled jars with candy, decorated them for the season, and handed them out in the community, including Arni's restaurant. Those that participated included Jeff, Chris, Nigel and Joelle Meyer, Bill & Shirlty Carter, Marie Mosbaugh, Cathy Green, Sarah & Dudley Senefeld, and Janet Bangs. Above (left to right): Cathy Green painstakingly cleans a jar. Shirley Carter holds down the decorative cover while Chris Meyer secures it with a ribbon. The finished product. Shirley, Chris, a lucky recipient, and Cathy perform their simple act of kindess at Arni's.

Another part of their Kindess In Progress project was to wrap candy in bags and hand out at a sporting event held at the middle school. Above (left to right): Chris Meyer, Jeff Meyer, Cathy Green, Marie Mosbaugh, Nigel Meyer and Shirley Carter show off their project. Chris and Nigel pass out the free gift showing God's love to pleasantly surprised attenders of the sporting event. You never know who you'll serve - Gino and Deb Small and their nephew Jordan Bostic got a chance to see our church family at work!

Tipton, September 9

Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. marched in the Tipton Pork Festival Parade in Tipton on September 9 promoting the Dash for disABILITIES on September 16.

Who showed up with to help pass out dash for disABILITIES flyers and helped push wheelchairs? None other than Kip, helping out David Simmons! You can barely see him, but his head and part of his Kindness in Progress t-shirt is showing behind Karen McDole. Apparently when he makes public appearances, Kip avoids being teased about his purple color by appearing in his natural tan state. And if you look closely, you'll see he is wearing his well-deserved Pork Producers hat from the Indiana State Fair

Cicero & Arcadia

 Haiti

 Atlanta, IN

The Pastors took this challenge seriously, too! During the week of Labor Day, in the mornings they delivered fresh donuts to several places in our community, including Cicero Utilities, Iris Rubber, Cicero Fire Station, Cicero Police Station, Hamilton Heights High School, Middle School, Primary School and Elementary School, and the Post Office. Sorry if you were trying to get fresh donuts at Village Pantry last week! In the photo, Kip is surrounded by (from left to right) Chad Allen, Tim Lueking, Steven Hancock, Bill Bergstrom and Ben Radant.

A home fellowship have combined their Kip $20 Blast challenge monies and have purchased goats for Damou Christian Mission (Tina Eisenhower) in Haiti.  Home Fellowship members are: Bob & Tomme Camp, Jim & Linda Hedges, Jan & Susan Hoch, Mike & Judy Jenkins, Rick & Vicki McGaw, Walter & Ann Morris, Ken & Cheri Newcom, Paul & Judy Settles, Richard & Betty Wilgus, and Steve & Donna Zell.

(oops, this one was wrongly assigned to the elders - they did the next one)

Looks like Kip lost his head over this one! The elders are buying flower packets and they are going to give them away free at the Atlanta Earth Festival at the end of September. A Kindness in Progress sticker will be applied.

Noblesville - 9/4 - 9/6

Another Community Gathering group accepted the challenge! Kip knows how to cook fantastic banana bread! Clarence and Kathy Rudd; Jon, Emily and Leah Croke; Eddie Rudd; Sharon Allman and Willie Ogden worked together on Labor Day and made 49 loaves of banana bread. They cut them in half, then wrapped each half-loaf. They enclosed in each one a "Kindess in Progress" card, a "You Are Served" card and a scripture written on a piece of paper.

Rosalia Hancock, Joyce Hancock and Richard Walsmith also baked 60 loaves! Between the two groups, they went to all six different fire stations in Noblesville and the Cicero Fire Station, and gave each firefighter one to take home to his or her family.

There were enough loaves for every person on each shift. We then gave the leftover ones to our neighbors. It was a good opportunity to meet some new poeple at the fire stations, and to also talk with our neighbors.

Many were surprised and pleased that we would do this, with no expectations of anything in return.

Cicero - Sept. 7

 Noblesville - 8/21-9/2

Some of the Crosslight Christian Daycare staff went to the Cicero park at Brinton and Stringtown and painted the skate ramp, picked up weeds and trash. This is something that helped out the park crew get other things done and helped the community by beautifing the park. Top Row (l to r): Heather Dougan, Beth Lacey, Jody Boyd; Bottom Row (l to r): Jenni Roosa, Tara Gardner, Vanessa Sheller.

Kip has been to the Laundrymat! Betty Cunningham took him there and he put quarters in several machines and left "you've been served!" cards and ready reference tracts. Kip and Betty also sent out some "thinking of you cards" and baked and delivered 3 Zucchini breads.

Cicero - Sept. 1

 London, KY - August 25 & 26

The schoolagers from Crosslight Christian Daycare dared to do a great and helpful KIP
project. They cleaned out the daycare vans. If anyone
has ever been in those vans in the heat of summer you will
understand the smells they had to endure to clean them up.
They did a great job and Director Jenni Roosa appreciated their help soooooo
much!

Kip helped move Pastor Chad Allen and his wife Megan from London, Kentucky to Cicero. (Left to Right) Sharon and John Knapp, Tom Ping and Kip, Robbie Ping, Paul Martz, (kneeling) Dan and Pam Conder all went down on Friday night August 25, and spent the night, then made the move on Saturday. They were greeted at the house in Cicero with several more who helped unload.

Who knew that Kip liked to vacuum? Sharon Knapp helped prepare Chad and Megan's new home in Cicero.
